The story goes something like this…
After getting engaged, my husband and I made the decision to buy a fixer upper and renovate said fixer upper while planning our wedding with a six-month engagement. We decided to get married before the house was livable, couch surf for a few months, and then camp out in our house until it was finished. All this happened in ONE CRAZY YEAR.
Out of this madness and hilarity, the Married and a House Instagram was born. The Instagram account was initially a way to keep our friends and family in the loop on our fixer upper projects, but it grew into so much more!
Spending months living in a shabby house that reeked of old dog pee, sleeping on an air mattress in the summer heat without air conditioning and making ramen in a coffee pot brought us to our wits end and taught us a lot about marriage and the necessity of being spiritually rooted.
In addition, the process of turning an abandoned house into a home was an adventure to say the least. Countless hours were spent researching goods that didn’t break the bank and discovering how to live comfortably in a 900 square foot house with various DIY projects and organization hacks.
And yet, of all the things this wild adventure taught us in getting married and fixing up a house, I have found the most valuable lesson was in the realization that of all the renovation projects, the most important one is within myself. All the projects themselves do not make a home, they create an environment, but the heart of the home comes from the people who live in it. Who I am as a wife, mother, and homemaker is reflected in the cumulation of how I spend my days, and how I spend my days is a reflection of my interior life. Hence, after our renovations were complete I found myself drawn more deeply into who God calls me to be and how He calls me to live.
Now, here I am with a website on holy homemaking.
I will attest to being a continual learner, I am not an expert homemaker and I don’t have all the answers. But, I believe firmly in teaching as I learn and thus what started as an Instagram account has become so much more! Married & a House has transformed into the place where I teach about the vocation of homemaking and where I hope to cultivate a community of encouragement for homemakers who desire to grow in holiness.
So, I invite you to come along and learn with me as I pursue whole heartedly the vocation the Lord has called me to. Whatever has led you here, it is my hope is that this website inspires you in your vocation!
Thanks for stopping by!
If you feel led, I’d love to know you!
