Choosing Art for Your Home
Let’s talk art in the home.
Art is not meant to be a space filler. There isn’t anything wrong with hanging pieces for the mere sake of decor. Decor is great! But decor is not always art.
Art is meant to fill out hearts and minds with wonder. This is one reason I am particularly drawn to religious art. It helps me to pray, to think of things above and beyond the walls of my home.
In this blog, I have compiled for you some of my favorite small shops and artists. Go to their websites linked in each title. They have many more pieces than the ones pictured here! Consider supporting them this season!
One last thing before you scroll:
5 Tips for Choosing Art for Your Home
Don’t just hang a random landscape because that is what you think you are supposed to do. Find one that resonates with you. A scene that you long to be in, a place you can go in your imagination at any time of day and leave happier or one that holds a memory that is dear to you.
Find religious art that is not kitschy. Just cause it is religious, does not mean it is good. Don’t get me started on bad religious art. The religious art in your home should be something you want to look at and ponder while you pray. It should lead you to think of mysteries of the faith and reflect more deeply on truth.
Don’t buy weird catchy slogans that mean nothing to you. Find verses, quotes, or graphics that remind you what you want to focus on throughout the day. I find it is helpful to change these out every so often as you need new reminders in the different seasons of life.
Abstract pieces can fill our hearts and minds too! But again, don’t just pick something because it matches your color scheme (that would be decor). Find abstract art that peaks your curiosity, draws you in, and without explanation you can’t stop staring and loving it.
Still lifes and florals are a great way to personalize your home. Find your favorite flowers or a collection that reminds you of someone or something. Or again, like the abstract pieces, for some reason unexplained, you are drawn to it and love it! I am always looking for florals that have roses and lilies in them because they are a tribute to daughters name.
Ok, now scroll!! I hope you find something you love!
