The Cozy Mom Uniform

Comfy Cozy

Friends, I love being comfortable but if I wear my pajamas or sweats all day, I begin to feel lazy, dumpy, and like all I want to do is crawl into bed and get lost in a pile of down blankets. Besides, the whole sweats and leggings vibe makes me feel too much like a teenager.

So, I want to look nice, but I still want to be comfortable.

Just the right amount of comfortable.

Enter…the Mom Uniform.

Let me first say, I fully support the women who are gung-ho on wearing dresses everyday. I think that is beautiful and I do agree the right dresses can be super comfy but currently I do not possess such dresses. I aspire to wear dresses more often but I am also a girl who loves her pants. I have a few dresses I love to wear but they are not my everyday attire. I don’t choose them when I know I’ll be crawling on the floor with the kids, or taking a brisk walk in the fall or winter, or getting messy as I tend to do with my home projects.

The Mom Uniform

The purpose of the “mom uniform” is to have a go-to outfit or set of outfits that serves the mom and all she does as a homemaker. Having a mom uniform takes the decision fatigue out of getting ready in the morning. As a mom, there are plenty of decision to make, getting dressed should be easy and stress free.

She doesn’t need a hundred outfits. Just a few on rotation. I started with one go-to outfit and wore it almost every day of the week, just like I would a work uniform.

Like a work uniform, this outfit makes it easy for her to accomplish her tasks, serve her family and feel dignified in the process. There are a variety of tasks to do as a mother and homemaker so the clothes of a mom uniform must be versatile. It needs to be able to serve her in a variety of tasks: leaving the house to run errands, take a walk with the stroller, crawling on the floor playing with children, preparing meals, getting on her hands and knees to clean, curling up on the couch with a kid and book, and it would help if they were nursing friendly too.

The mom uniform should also be an outfit that she feels beautiful in, dignified, but also comfortable.

When it comes to my mom uniform, I want to look nice, not sloppy. I want to feel like a grown woman and not look like a teenager. I want to easily be able to do what needs to be done without the annoyance of itchy fabric, loose neck lines, annoying elastic, or anything of the sort.

I have put together a few pieces from my capsule wardrobe to inspire you. These are what I wear on a daily basis.

5 Comfy Cozy Outfits for a Catholic Mom and Homemaker

…that are NOT sweatpants or leggings!

The Classic Mom Jean

Never underestimate the power of a great pair of jeans. It took me forever to find “my pair”. I can’t tell you how many I ordered online, tried on, and sent back to the store. But, I found them! I like to wear this with a big sweater or a long or short sleeve-T.

The Waffle Shirt and Gauze Pants Combo

…with the COATIGAN. Do you know what a Coatigan is? Cartigan + House Coat = MAGICAL. Textures are a really big factor in a cozy outfit. Waffle knit and gauzy pants are a dreamy combo. And the Coatigan, it is more comfortable than my robe and I can wear it in and out of the house.

The Cotton T-Shirt Dress

If I am going to wear a dress everyday, you better believe it will be a cotton T-Shirt dress. You can’t tell here, but it is a ribbed dress because like I said… I love texture!!! The only setback to this dress is it is not nursing friendly, but you can find ones that are. Throw a sweatshirt on or a cardigan and its super cozy!

The Overalls

Listen, I was slow to jump on this train. I was like really…overalls??? But then I put them on and realized they were pants without a waistband and I was sold. They are very comfy and also nursing friendly!

The Jumpsuit

I love having a good comfy jumpsuit. There are some great nursing friendly options as well with buttons down the center. My maternity jumpsuit is my favorite pregnancy outfit. It pairs well with cardigans and sweaters for all season use!

For these 5 outfits, I have a total of 12 pieces that can be mixed and matched a variety of ways totaling 36 different outfit combinations. It is more than enough to get me through a week. This hopefully provides you with a great example of how doable the capsule wardrobe is. If you still need more convincing, stick around! I have some great resources coming for creating a capsule wardrobe!!
